Barrick Gold Corporation was formed on July 14, 1984 by the merger of Barrick Gold Corporation, Camflo Minerals, Bob-Clare Investments and Barrick Resources, and is managed by the Business Corporations Act. Barrick is engaged in the production and sale of gold, as well as related activities such as exploration and mine development. Barrick also produces a large amount of copper, mainly from Zaldivar, Lumwana and other mines. Barrick also considers diversifying into other metals or minerals when suitable opportunities arise. In the fourth quarter of 2013, the company reorganized its operating structure, and now Barrick manages ten operating units: five individual gold mines, two gold portfolio, 63.9% stake in Barrick Gold Africa, global copper business and one project. At Barrick, the COO evaluates operating results, evaluates performance, and makes capital allocation decisions for each operating unit.
