CoreCivic, Inc., is a Maryland company founded in 1983. The company is the largest owner of privatized corrections and detention facilities in the United States and one of the largest prison operators in the United States. As of December 31, 2019, through the Company's core Citizen Security Division, the Company operated 50 corrections and detention facilities, 43 of which were owned by the Company, with a total designed capacity of approximately 73,000 beds. In addition to providing basic residential services, the Company's Correctional, Detention and Re-entry Facilities offer a variety of rehabilitation and education programs, including basic education, faith services, life skills and employment training, and substance abuse treatment. These services are designed to help reduce recidivism rates and prepare offenders for successful reintegration into society upon release. The Company also provides or provides certain medical care (including medical, dental and mental health services), food services, and work and recreational items to offenders.
