Stellantis Abandons Poland EV Model, Partners with Leapmotor for European Market

Stellantis, a leading global automaker, has recently made notable advancements in its electric vehicle (EV) strategy, particularly in Europe. The company has decided to abandon plans to build a second EV model at its factory in Tychy, Poland. This decision is part of a broader strategy to leverage its partnership with Leapmotor, a Chinese EV startup, to enhance its EV offerings.

Leapmotor, which is backed by stellantis, unveiled the B10 compact crossover at the 2024 Paris motor show. There are indications that Leapmotor may produce the B10 at a Stellantis factory in Spain, which could help reduce the price in the European market. This move is part of Stellantis' broader strategy to integrate Leapmotor's technology and production capabilities into its European operations, potentially saving costs and accelerating its transition to electric vehicles.

Stellantis Pro One, the business unit dedicated to commercial vehicles, has also announced a significant collaboration with IVECO. This partnership involves the European commercialization of two 100% electric vehicles under the IVECO brand, produced by Stellantis Pro One. These models will be manufactured at Stellantis' plants in Atessa (Italy), Gliwice (Poland), and Hordain (France), and will be distributed through IVECO's established sales and service channels in Europe. The launch of these new models is scheduled for mid-2026, based on a ten-year agreement. This collaboration underscores Stellantis' commitment to sustainable mobility and its long-term vision for the commercial vehicle sector.

The decision to scrap the second EV model in Poland and focus on Leapmotor's B10 production in Spain is a strategic move by Stellantis. By leveraging Leapmotor's technology and production capabilities, Stellantis aims to reduce costs and accelerate its EV transition. This partnership not only helps Stellantis save on production costs but also allows it to tap into the growing demand for electric vehicles in Europe. The collaboration with IVECO further strengthens Stellantis' position in the commercial vehicle sector, providing a broader range of electric vehicles to meet the diverse needs of customers.

Stellantis' strategic shift towards electric vehicles is part of its broader Dare Forward 2030 plan, which aims to achieve a 100% passenger car BEV sales mix in Europe and 50% passenger car and light-duty truck BEV sales mix in the United States by 2030. The company is also committed to becoming a carbon net-zero corporation by 2038, with single-digit percentage compensation of remaining emissions. By partnering with Leapmotor and IVECO, Stellantis is taking significant steps towards achieving these ambitious goals and solidifying its position as a leader in the global EV market.
