On July 19, Microsoft Corp. reported that some of its applications and services were experiencing delays, outages or blue screens, affecting multiple industries including aviation, rail, banking, enterprise and media, causing significant disruptions. The stock price of Microsoft fell sharply in pre-market trading.

It is understood that the fault is related to a global cybersecurity company, CrowdStrike, which is associated with Microsoft. A British security official said that security experts did not regard the global network outage affecting multiple industries as a malicious attack.

Airlines were among the most affected industries. Several major U.S. airlines, including Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, grounded all flights on July 19. According to flight tracking website FlightAware, more than 1,000 flights in and out of the U.S. were canceled as of that morning. In addition to the U.S., some airlines in Australia, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, India, Czech, New Zealand, South Korea, Spain also experienced flight delays or airport service disruptions.

Aside from the aviation industry, the Microsoft "blue screen" incident also had a significant impact on multiple industries worldwide. Many oil, gas, power, stock, currency and bond traders were unable to conduct normal trading on July 19. In addition, media operations also experienced technical failures, with Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Sky News in the UK both experiencing technical issues.

The Tesla factory in the U.S. was also affected by the incident, causing some workers to leave early and affecting production lines. Tesla CEO Elon Musk was highly displeased and publicly criticized Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, announcing that the company had already deleted CrowdStrike's software from all its systems.

Microsoft CEO Nadella said in a statement that Microsoft was working closely with CrowdStrike to provide technical support to affected customers. However, Musk was not satisfied, accusing the incident of having an impact on the supply chain of the automobile industry.

According to a report by China Central Television, Microsoft Corp. issued a statement on its website on July 19 that some technical issues may have caused users to be unable to access Microsoft 365 applications and services. After initial confirmation of the problem's source, Microsoft has taken measures to respond, and some services have been restored, with the impact on users reduced. Microsoft is closely monitoring related data to ensure the continued recovery of subsequent services.
