(META) fell by 0.17%, marking its sixth consecutive day of decline, with a total drop of 14.39% over the past six days.Meta was summoned to Washington to defend its acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp in a trial brought by the US Federal Trade Commission. The FTC alleges that Meta maintained monopoly power in personal social networking services in the U.S. by acquiring these companies.
During the trial, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified for over 10 hours, emphasizing that he bought Instagram and WhatsApp because he saw value in the companies. Internal emails from Zuckerberg were presented by the FTC, highlighting Meta's strategic decisions and internal discussions.
Despite various presentations from the FTC and opinions from antitrust experts, the case was ultimately thrown out. The FTC's chairman, Andrew Ferguson, found Meta's settlement offer not credible and was not ready to settle for anything less than $18 billion and a consent decree.
